Someone That Knows Britney
from us magazine...Although she's no longer on the payroll, Britney Spears' former publicist is still on the singer's side. Lizzie Grubman, who was a tabloid staple herself for a while, tells Us magazine, "There is still a real girl in there, but she's shutting people out and doesn't want to trust anybody. It's all very tragic and sad.Never in a million years would I have believed it would go this way. When I first started working with her she was this humble, sweet little girl."

Britney Story For Today
If Britney Spears' father had his way, she'd have been hospitalized months before her recent meltdown. T-M-Z reports that Jamie Spearshas been pleading with the singer to get help for the bipolar disorder that he -- and others -- considers to be her problem. She's refused to undergo any psychological testing, but her dad is said to be continuing his quest to change her mind.
Britney's also getting some advice from American Idol judge Simon Cowell, who tells Britain's Sun newspaper, "I'd have told her, 'Stay with your mum, don't go out with your stupid friends, just live normally.' You'd be amazed -- you live normally, and suddenly everything becomes normal. All that craziness, being followed around and all that stuff, it's going to do your head in. But you can get away from it if you want to."This Is Sad

Team Lachey Does A Great Deed
from The Enquirer...A group of Cincinnati Country Day School students has enlisted Cincinnati native Nick Lachey and his choir in their efforts to raise money for an AIDS-wracked South African village.
Lachey will bring his 20-member Cincinnati choir, which won NBC reality show “Clash of the Choirs” on Dec. 20, to Music Hall’s ballroom to perform a benefit concert at 8 p.m. on Jan. 18.
Proceeds will go to help Langkloof, South Africa, an impoverished village that several Cincinnati Country Day School juniors have raised more than $950,000 for during the past four years.
Maya Amoils, a Cincinnati Country Day student who instigated the HOPE project, is thrilled that Lachey will be appearing with his “Team Lachey” choir.
“He postponed a trip to California for his grandmother’s 80th birthday to do this concert,” Amoils said. “It’s pretty amazing. And he’s doing it for free.”
Amoils first met Lachey through a friend of her father’s on Labor Day at a benefit concert for the School for the Creative and Performing Arts at the Great American Ball Park. She told him about Help Other People Endure, the non-profit group she and her friends formed to help Langkloof, and asked him about the possibility of his performing at a benefit concert.
Later, she gave her father’s friend a DVD and a brochure about the HOPE project to give to Lachey.
He first agreed to perform at a concert on Jan. 20, but had to cancel a couple of weeks ago because of a planned celebration for his grandmother’s 80th birthday in Los Angeles.
On Dec. 31, Amoils arranged the Jan. 18 date in a conference call with Lachey, who was in Costa Rica, and her father’s friend.
“I said, ‘Won’t that interfere with your trip for your grandmother’s birthday?,” Amoils said. “He said, ‘I’d be happy to push it back a day for you guys.’ He was unbelievably nice.”
It will be the first concert of Lachey and his choir since their victory on “Clash of the Choirs.” Team Lachey sang on Fountain Square on New Year’s Eve without Lachey.
Tickets for the Jan. 18 concert will cost $20 in advance and will be available at Music Hall’s box office or online at www.cincinnatiarts.org. Tickets will be $25 at door on the night of the concert. There will be 100 VIP tickets available for $100 each. VIP ticket-buyers will have seats in the front rows. The ballroom can hold as many as 1,300 people.
Bad Luck Jess?

The gambling site Sportsbook-dot-com is taking bets as to whether Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will allow gal pal Jessica Simpson to attend his playoff game against the New York Giants on Sunday. As of now, the odds are two-to-one against her making it to the stadium. Fans of the Texas team have dubbed Jess a jinx, since her beau has suffered a pair of sub-par performances since she began showing up in the stands.

Paula And Airports Not A Good Combo
from tmz...Another season of "Idol," another meltdown for Paula Abdul – if a "radar" report is to believed.
"She had an insane nervous breakdown that lasted ten minutes," said a tipster, at a Continental Airlines terminal at LAX. "One minute she was hyperventilating ... the next she was yelling into her cell phone in this deep, rage-filled 'Poltergeist' voice." Abdul's rep had no comment.
Mrs. Spears Not Happy With Dr. Phil
from tmz...Jamie and Lynne Spears slammed -- and we mean slammed -- Dr. Phil this morning, calling the way he handled his contact with Britney a betrayal, inappropriate, and a total breach of their trust.
Spears family rep Lou Taylor told Meredith Vieira on the "Today" show that Dr. Phil actually broached the subject of doing a show about Britney, but that they nixed the idea, only to have Phil try to set up the show anyway. Taylor scorched Phil, saying it was even "inappropriate" for Phil to bring up doing a show, and that the family thought it would be detrimental to Britney.
What's more, Taylor said that the family felt "betrayed" that Phil would issue any kind of statement after meeting with Brit, and that nobody had given him any authority to say anything, much less bellow on and on like he did.

Eminem Survives A Scare

Heigl On Her Honeymoon And Britney

So what does the actress – who wed musician Josh Kelley Dec. 23 during a Christmas-themed ceremony in Park City, Utah – remember most from her whirlwind Mexican getaway? "Ahhh, the Piña Coladas!" she told PEOPLE. "Oh my God, Cabo! The Esperanza [resort] and Piña Coladas – it doesn't get a lot better."
The Grey's Anatomy star, 29, turned serious, though, when asked by a reporter about Britney Spears, "I can't possibly imagine what that young girl is going through," she said. "I just hope ... that even with all this attention, people can find it in their hearts to be compassionate and not be so judgmental. She is obviously in a great deal of drama and pain, and that's a horrible thing for someone to go through in front of the entire world – and I'm sorry for her."
Denial Is Not A River In Egypt ;-)

Scandal = Ratings
from the ny postLast Friday's season-ending episode of "Zoey 101," starring pregnant, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears, averaged 7.3 million viewers - a huge audience for cable and more-than-double the Nickelodeon show's season average.
The hourlong episode, "Goodbye Zoey," aired just two weeks after Jamie Lynn, the younger sister of troubled pop star Britney Spears disclosed that she's pregnant - setting off a tabloid frenzy.
"Goodbye Zoey" was the show's third-season finale. Spears has already filmed a fourth and final season - and Nickelodeon officials say they'll air that season, as planned, beginning next month.
Britney Goes British
from entertainment tonight...Sources tell ET that BRITNEY SPEARS spoke with a British accent during her stay at Cedars-Sinai hospital last Friday. While Dr. Phil wouldn't comment on that during our exclusive interview with him, he did say that the troubled pop star needs to be in treatment.
"She needs to be in in-patient care for a period of time," he advises. "Is she having a rough time right now? Yes, she is. Why? I'm not really going to go into that at this point. But I can tell you this is a good person and I truly believe she'll get back to being a good person."

No Live Golden Globes

from lee jeske...
N-B-C has decided to cancel Sunday night's telecast of the Golden Globes. But there will be Golden Globe Award-winners announced -- and N-B-C will cover that.
After Dick Clark Productions failed to reach an interim agreement with the Writer's Guild to allow the show to go on with writers -- and with the Screen Actors Guild demanding that its members not cross writers' picket lines -- N-B-C and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to cancel the big event.
However, N-B-C's news division will cover a press conference announcing the winners, preceded by an episode of Dateline featuring clips from the nominated films and movies and interviews with nominees. As for the nominees -- since there won't be a telecast event, they're welcome to stroll a red carpet and attend the various planned after-parties, which will also be covered, Access Hollywood-style, by N-B-C News.

Courtney Love To The Rescue!!!

from contact...
COURTNEY LOVE has expressed her sympathy for troubled pop star BRITNEY SPEARS, because she knows what it's like to be demonised in the press. Love, has battled her own substance abuse problems in the past, but admits it must be harder for Spears to deal with the media attention because of her previous reputation as a clean-cut pop star.
Dr Phil Not Going To Do The Britney Special
from Contact...A TV special of DR PHIL MCGRAW's U.S. show focusing on BRITNEY SPEARS' latest troubles has been cancelled, after the pop star's parents pulled out of the program. Dr, Phil visited Spears at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last week, where she was being held following a stand-off with police at her Beverly Hills mansion when she refused to hand over her boys to ex-husband Kevin Federline after a scheduled visit.
Tim McGraw planned to discuss the singer's ongoing personal problems on Tuesday's edition of the show - with her parents Lynne and Jamie as special guests. But Spears' mum and dad cancelled on Sunday when the taping was due to take place - and MCGraw has now decided to shelve the idea altogether because of the "intensity" of the situation.
In a statement issued to Entertainment Tonight, he says, "As was widely reported this weekend, at the request of concerned family members, I visited Britney Spears in the hospital. The details of that visit will, of course, remain private. "We had planned to tape a 'Dr. Phil Now' show tomorrow, focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney's latest problems, but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case. Clearly, it is not just Britney's family struggling to find a way to protect adult children who cannot be ordered or compelled to seek help. "Because the Spears situation is too intense at this time, and out of consideration to the family, I have made the decision not to move forward with the taping at this particular time. Britney and her family are in our prayers and we ask that they be in yours."

No TV Sag?
The decision of the Screen Actors Guild to have its members boycott this Sunday's Golden Globe Awards is reportedly being spearheaded by one high-profile nominee -- George Clooney. One unnamed N-B-C executive has been quoted saying, "We know Clooney is a major force behind this decision. He has been ear-bashing others who may have been willing to cross picket lines." But a Clooney associate responds, "He does not ear-bash, he is far too easy-going for that."
Officially, N-B-C's position is, actors or no actors, Sunday's show will go on. But various other scenarios -- including one in which the actors show up, but the show is not televised -- are reportedly being discussed.
New Tom Cruise Book
written by lee jeske...Tom Cruise is not the world's top Scientologist. But he's a close second. According to an unauthorized biography of the couch-jumper by Princess Diana biography Andrew Morton, "every aspect of planning and policy" in Cruise's bizarre life is dictated by Scientology leader David Miscavige, who considers him his second-in-arms and even joined Cruise and Katie Holmes on their honeymoon.
Speaking of Holmes, Morton says some loyal Scientologists "wondered if the actress had been impregnated with [the late Scientologist founder L. Ron] Hubbard's frozen sperm. In her more reflective moments, Katie might have felt as if she were in the middle of a real-life version of the horror movie Rosemary's Baby, in which an unsuspecting young woman is impregnated with the Devil's child."
As for Tom's second wife, Nicole Kidman, Morton claims she never spoke out about their relationship after their divorce because she was worried about the leaking of what Scientologists call "audit tapes" -- details of her and Tom's sex life that the Scientology brain trust reportedly has its members record.
Tom's lawyer, predictably, calls the tome a "boring, poorly researched book by a man who never talked to anyone involved in Tom Cruise's life or anyone close to him," and is threatening a 100-million-dollar lawsuit. The book hits stores on January 15th.
