Weekend Box Office

Will Ferrell's latest sports spoof, Semi-Pro, was a slam-dunk at the weekend box office. The basketball comedy, also starring Woody Harrelson, was the number-one movie in the country with 15-point-two-million dollars in its first three days of release.

The only other movie to open in the Top 5, The Other Boleyn Girl, earned eight-point-three-million dollars. The period drama, starring Natalie Portman and ScarlettJohansson, landed in fourth despite playing in only 12-hundred theaters.

The political thriller Vantage Point, starring Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox, slipped from first to second with 13-million dollars. Its 10-day total stands at 41 million.

The children's fantasy The Spiderwick Chronicles was third with eight-point-eight-million bucks.

The sci-fi thriller Jumper was fifth with seven-point-six million dollars.

And the weekend's other new release, Penelope, starring Christina Ricci, opened in eighth with four-million dollars.
