A 2004 production of American Gangster starring Denzel Washington and Benicio Del Toro got sidetracked by the studio. Both actors had pay-or-play deals, so Del Toro got his five-million-dollar salary, and Washington was paid 20-million for doing nothing.
Denzel later got another 20-million to make the current version with Russell Crowe.
